The Family Service Center of Jefferson County, a program of Family Guidance Center of Alabama, hosted the 10th Annual Child Abuse Prevention Information Session and Balloon Release on Thursday, April 25, 2019. The event included over 40 participants from the community including representatives from the City of Birmingham Mayor’s Office. Dr. Walter White, Executive Director, gave welcoming remarks from Family Guidance Center of Alabama, and Mr. Lorenza Thomas, Lawson State Community College, gave welcoming remarks on behalf of the Center’s Advisory Council. Ms. Teresa Costanzo, Field Director, Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention (CTF), facilitated the training session that highlighted the strengthening families framework. She also conducted an interactive exercise that included audience participation and dialogue about how to work together as a community to prevent child abuse. Due to thunderstorms, all attendees concluded the event by taking a balloon with them to bring awareness to the importance of child abuse prevention.
