The early years of a child’s life are critical for brain development, learning, and emotional growth. Success By 6 is a community-based partnership dedicated to ensuring young children enter school ready to learn, grow, and succeed. By bringing together parents, businesses, schools, and community leaders, Success By 6 provides high-quality early childhood education, family resources, and school readiness initiatives tailored to the unique needs of each child and family.
Success By 6 was developed in 1988 by the United Way in Minneapolis, MN as a way to ensure Minneapolis children entered school ready to learn. In 1993, Success By 6 was implemented in Montgomery through a collaboration of the River Region United Way and the Montgomery YMCA. From 1993 to 1995, Family Guidance Center of Alabama provided teachers and classroom oversight for Success By 6 Pre-K classrooms.

The Success By 6 Program is more than just early learning—it’s a proven path to long-term success for children and families. Graduates of the program have been shown to score up to two full grades higher than their peers who did not attend. Standardized test scores are 10-14 points higher, setting children up for a strong start in school. Since 1997, over 125 parents have earned their GED, with many continuing on to higher education and career advancements. More than 5,320 children (ages 0-3) have been provided medical homes for regular checkups, immunizations, and early screenings through our community partnerships.
By supporting both early education and family development, Success By 6 helps transform futures, one child at a time.
